Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary

Daylight hours, with a small Forest Department entry fee.
Best time to visit
October to March. The birds arrive in October and the chicks fly by April.
Location
Nelapattu village, near Doravarisatram, about 20 km north of Sullurpeta.
What to do
A 459-hectare wetland and one of the most important breeding sites for spot-billed (grey) pelicans. In a good season there are around 20,000 adult birds and 10,000 chicks, along with ibis, cormorants and storks nesting in the trees.
Watch them from the towers and the walkway.

How to reach
By cab or bike via Srikalahasti and Naidupeta.
Tip: Pulicat Lake, BV Palem, Nelapattu, Sriharikota and Tupilipalem sit close together near Sullurpeta. Plan them as one full-day trip, ideally during the Flamingo Festival in January.
