Akasa Ganga
History and legend
A sacred waterfall on Tirumala hill. Legend says the head priest Tirumala Nambi used to carry water for the Lord's daily bath from far-off Papavinasanam.
One day a thirsty hunter pierced his pot with an arrow. The hunter then shot an arrow into the hill and water burst out, and he revealed himself as Lord Venkateswara.
What makes it unique
- Water from Akasa Ganga is still used in the Lord's daily service.
- Tirumala Nambi was the maternal uncle and guru of Ramanujacharya.
- A shrine to Anjana Devi, mother of Hanuman, stands nearby.
